Healthcare

HS&S's integrated approach is particularly suited to the specialised demands of the healthcare sector. We recognise that good design goes beyond the physical fabric alone – as well as being efficient a building must be supportive of its purpose.

We have a wealth of experience in the design of hospitals and health clinics, our high-tech buildings are functional, sustainable and designed around the needs of the people who use them.

Core to a health facility is the safety and security of the staff, patients and ancillary staff – this extends from arrival to the estate, right through to the operating theatre. This aspect of security is best delivered through a corporate health trust understanding of the issue and buy-in, through to a palette of operational, procedural and technical aspects at an estate level. We achieve this through working with staff, developers and architects, where we can reduce the reliance on just technological solutions.

Inevitably a key capital expenditure item for a health facility build is an integrated technical solution comprising of security systems and processes necessary to mitigate the security risks of a public building. HS&S can implement this through recommending major mitigation components which can include intrusion detection systems; CCTV; access control systems; asset tracking (baby alarms for the maternity unit); locking systems; key handling; control room and perimeter CCTV systems. Additional security measures relating to access are, guarding, intercom arrangements, offsite communications (for alarms and voice) and the provision of the control room to manage the overall system functionality.
